Summary
The job of the educator or instructional designer is not to simply to create materials in which concepts are clearly explained, but to create learning situations in which students find themselves actively engaging with the concepts they are learning. (Alexander. G. 1998)
- To supplement this simple guide, please read the excellent guide to creating web based learning(www.glow.ac.uk), which delves deeper in to the concepts I have covered above.Read an offline PDF version of it here.
- I also recommend this presentation covering some of the pedagogy and recent research into learning design. A well balanced presentation covering some deeper design concepts.
- In addition to the above, this document on designing to learn, emphasises the requirements for courseware to be designed to meet the needs of the end users. Available at the URL:
- Finally I would also like to recommend the excellent elearning hand book on available as a PDF here Staffs University hand book . Pay particular attention to pages 6 to 13.
Finally
Ensure that you:
- Review learning theories (styles, constructivism, etc)
- Follow an instructional design process
- Be creative, think differently and laterally. VLE's and web 2.0 software allow you to achieve so much more than traditional face to face delivery.
- Review, reflect on, then refine the elearning experiences to suit your students needs.
